Initiative for Regulatory Innovation (IRI)

CEU Business School Initiative for Regulatory Innovation is a research center that aims to assess the current state as well as to explore directions for continuous improvement of economic regulation in the region. Bringing together business leaders of regulated enterprises, reform-oriented regulatory officials, and academics distinguished by their deep understanding of a policy and political context of their respective countries, the aim of IRI is to be a unique transnational research network that significantly strengthens a link between CEU and some of the leading business and public organizations.

Prof. Koles Appointed to IMRA Executive Committee

Bernadett Koles, CEU Business School Associate Professor of Managment and Co-Director of the Initiative for Regulatory Innovation research center, was asked to join the Executive Committee of the International Management Research Academya global association of management scholars and practitioners dedicated to the continuous and effective development of management theory and practice.

Prof. Kisilowski Wins Award from Academy of Management

“Bulldogs under the Carpet” – a multimedia case study series authored by Maciej Kisilowski – Assistant Professor of Law & Public Management and Co-Director of the Initiative for Regulatory Innovation – won a prestigious award from the Academy of Management – the world’s main association of management scholars.

Prof. Koles Receives Best Paper Award at IMRA's Emerging Markets Conference

Bernadett Koles, Associate Professor of Management at CEU Business School and Co-Director of the Initiative for Regulatory Innovation research center received the Best Competitive Paper Award - First Rank recognition for her paper that she presented at a conference organized by the International Management Research Academy in May in London. The conference attracted participant from 33 countries, representing academia as well as public and private organizations with a focus on emerging markets.

Professor Kisilowski's Case in the Finals of AOM Competition

 

Bulldogs under the Carpet, the case series authored by Maciej Kisilowski - CEU Business School Assistant Professor of Law and Public Management, and the Co-Director of the Business School's Initiative for Regulatory Innovation - has been selected as one of five finalist of the worldwide case-writing competition organized by the prestigious Academy of Management. Professor Kisilowski will be presenting the case during the Annual Congress of the Academy in Boston in early August 2012. The winner of the competition will be chosen at the Congress. 

Professors Kisilowski and Koles Receive Google Research Award

Professors Maciej Kisilowski and Bernadett Koles, Co-Directors of Initiative for Regulatory Innovation (IRI) received Google Research Award – a prestigious grant supporting the most innovative new research ideas. The grant, awarded by Google Inc. in a worldwide competition, will support IRI’s new multinational comparative empirical study of public and private knowledge-based organizations. “The fact that one of the world’s most innovative knowledge-based companies recognized the potential in our research is an enormous encouragement” admits Professor Koles.

After many weeks of preparation and more than 15 hours of production, IRI completed filming an educational movie that will be a part of its new case study. The case study, titled Bulldogs under the Carpet: The Scandal Surrounding the Polish Broadcasting Act Amendment has been authored by Professor Maciej Kisilowski, IRI’s Co-Director. 

IRI Co-Director delivers a keynote address at a major conference of the Polish nonprofit sector

November 19, 2010. Just one day after its strong showing at the prestigious Zilele Biz congress in Bucharest, IRI played an important role at a major conference of the nonprofit sector in Poland. The conference, organized by the Polish Ministry of Labor that is responsible for regulating the third sector, was focused on assessing the impact of a major reform of the Polish nonprofit law introduced in 2004.

IRI announces its plans for the academic year 2010/2011

June 6, 2010. IRI, which during the 2009/2010 academic year focused on establishing its research agenda as well as on putting together a number of new courses on business-government interaction will expand its activities in the next academic year. The center will benefit from the help of an MBA research assistant, whose bio will soon be posted on the ‘faculty’ page of our site. Furthermore, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, we are currently applying for a large EU grant.

CEU Business School’s new elective in Public Management attracts broad student interest

April 5, 2010. During the upcoming summer term, CEU Business School will for the first time offer its new elective course in Public and Nonprofit Management, open to our MBA participants. The course is in many ways an experiment, since the School has not been focused on recruiting MBAs with a public- or nonprofit-sector career interests in mind. That is why, it came as a pleasant surprise when the new elective attracted more than 20 participants from full-time and executive MBA programs – well above our elective average.

IRI asked for input on the new social entrepreneurship law to be introduced by the Polish Prime Minister

January 20, 2010. The Task Force on Systemic Solutions in the area of Social Economics established by the Prime Minister of Poland has commissioned IRI to provide a thorough evaluation of the new law on social entrepreneurship that is currently under governmental consideration. On January 20th, IRI’s co-director Maciej Kisilowski presented the result of the center’s work in Warsaw. “What we face here is not a marginal tweaking of the current regulatory framework,” argues prof. Kisilowski. “Polish nonprofit sector desperately needs a major overhaul of its legal framework.

Seminar on Innovation in the Public Sector draws top European officials

November 15, 2009. Hungarian business media have noted our October 30th inaugural discussion forum. “CEU Business School in Budapest hosted an Exclusive Discussion Forum today on the governing challenges in the Eastern European countries in the post-crisis times” wrote Budapest Times. The article emphasizes both the participation of senior politicians and business executives from the region and the fact that the topics raised during the meeting will be thoroughly explored by the IRI. A similarly positive review of the event was given by the Világgazdaság.

IRI inaugurated with the discussion forum on value-creating government

October 30, 2009. CEU Business School‘s Initiative for Regulatory Innovation was inaugurated with the discussion forum of the prominent representatives of the private and public sector.
