CEU Business School Adopts iPads for Full-Time MBA Program
03/08/2011
Beginning this fall, every student entering CEU Business School’s full-time MBA program will receive an iPad2.
Dean Mel Horwitch says the decision underscores the priority he and CEU Business School faculty place on providing students with the tools and experiences most likely to lead to successful careers in a constantly changing global business environment. “Employing technology effectively is paramount,” Horwitch says. “After considerable review, our faculty concluded that iPads represent an exciting learning opportunity. We also surveyed current students and believe that the incoming class will embrace the iPad enthusiastically and creatively as an educational and managerial tool.”
The Budapest-based school is also reviewing various iPad apps to enhance collaboration and team effectiveness, interaction among faculty and students, action learning in the field, and database utilization.
Besides adopting iPads, CEU Business School will incorporate Moodle, an open-source learning management system, into all MBA courses. Moodle is a user-friendly vehicle for delivering content, conducting certain assignments, and hosting forums and blogs. The Business School anticipates that Moodle/iPad functionality can be quickly and seamlessly integrated by incorporating third-party apps.
Faculty members are excited about the potential for experimentation that these technologies offer. Horwitch observes, "The iPad experience is actually quite different from the laptop experience. We think our students will create surprising new ways to use tablets for learning and professional purposes, and we look forward to the possibility of prototyping and pushing the envelope in a learning-by-doing fashion.”
